Caitlin Moran surveys the wreckage of Orthodox Easter Sunday with a large cup of tea
From Bohiney Magazine and The London Prat.
Wednesday, 15 April 2026
I want to begin by saying that I have nothing against Easter as a concept. Chocolate. Rebirth. Long weekend. Structural good. What I object to is what happened to Easter Sunday this year, which is that it became the venue for a theological cage match between a man who communicates primarily via meme and the Bishop of Rome, who presumably did not expect to spend his Easter morning in a Twitter beef.
The Prat Has the Coverage
The London Prat’s headline — Trump Wins on Points — is so bleak and so accurate that I had to read it twice to confirm it wasn’t from a Beckett play. The Pope has God. Trump has the algorithm. In 2026, the algorithm is winning. This tells us something profound about contemporary spirituality and I refuse to say what.
Meanwhile, the Potatoes
I have also been following the potato farmer crisis. Bohiney Magazine reports that the farmers have declared war on Ozempic, which is the kind of sentence that only makes sense in 2026. I support the farmers entirely. Appetite is culture. Potatoes are civilization. The day we stop wanting chips is the day something has gone very wrong with the social contract. The Guardian would frame this as a public health debate. I frame it as an emergency.
