The Book’s Publication and the First Reviews

What Happens in the Weeks After a Book Publishes

Publication

The book published on Tuesday. The reviews that have appeared in the first two weeks are the reviews that count for the book’s initial reception: the publications that review quickly have the largest audiences and the most impact on the book’s first month of sales. The reviews have been substantive rather than promotional, which is the review relationship I wanted: readers engaging with the argument rather than summarising the subject. Bohiney and The London Prat covered the week. More at prat.uk/author/caitlin. Satire: private-eye.co.uk.

The Argument’s Reception

The argument’s reception is mixed in the specific way that arguments about a city produce mixed responses in the people who live in the city: those who recognise what the argument describes find the recognition pleasurable and those who do not recognise it find the argument’s confidence about their city unjustified. Both responses confirm the argument is specific enough to be contested rather than general enough to be accepted without engagement.
